Title of talk – “Arts & Mission: Lean Local—Learn to Love”

Music and arts provide an open door for loving people, not only in our own communities, but also when crossing cultural boundaries to serve others. The history of missions has taught us some important lessons, however, as our “first instincts” don’t always serve us well. Learn about some basic approaches that anyone can adopt that will empower local artists and demonstrate love, leading to powerful ministry in a communities both here and abroad.

Bio – Dr. Robin Harris is president of the International Council of Ethnodoxologists (ICE) and director of GIAL’s Center for Excellence in World Arts in Dallas, Texas. She served for decades in cross-cultural ministry, including ten years in northern Russia. Her publications include co-editing the award-winning Worship and Mission for the Global Church: An Ethnodoxology Handbook (William Carey Library, 2013) and a forthcoming volume through University of Illinois Press, Storytelling in Siberia: The Olonkho Epic in a Changing World.
